Detailed Activities

My research activity is interested in the non invasive investigation of skeletal muscle function and bioenergetics under normal and pathological conditions. I use home-built devices without equivalent in the world for longitudinally assessing anatomy, mechanical performance and energy metabolism in exercising muscle in vivo mainly using multimodal MR techniques (functional and anatomic MRI, dynamic 31P-MRS) in murine models. More specifically, my work led to a better understanding of the mechanisms involved (i) in the regulation and adaptation of energy fluxes in relation to force generation, (ii) in muscle weakness associated to structural alterations in various neuromuscular disorders (congenital myopathies, dystrophies, eosinophilic myositis), and (iii) in the development of metabolic syndrome (obesity, type-2 diabetes). My research also focuses on the evaluation of pharmaceutical and behavioral approaches for improving muscle function.
