Mission statement

Exploration of the Human Central Nervous System

The CNS team aims at providing relevant innovative in vivo and non-invasive MR parameters for the better understanding of the pathophysiology, structural abnormalities and dysfunction accompanying or causing some of the main neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and spinal cord injury impacting public health, in close relationships with clinicians from the team and external collaborators specialized also in Alzheimer’s disease, brain tumors, schizophrenia and brain maturation.
The activity of the team is coordinated by Pr Jean-Philippe Ranjeva*, and is focused on neurodegeneration, CNS plasticity and repair applied to the neurological and psychiatric diseases. Methodological developments of new MR parameters are goal oriented on clinical questions and allow to quantify ionic exchange dysfunction using 23Na-MRI (Wafaa Zaaraoui*), brain network organization using simultaneous EEG/resting state fMRI and diffusion weighted tractography (Maxime Guye*), brain plasticity (Bertrand Audoin*), metabolic dysfunction using 1H MRS (Sylviane Confort-Gouny*) and 1H MRSI (Yann Le Fur*) and structural, microstructural and microvascular brain abnormalities using VBM, DTI, magnetization transfer imaging, SWI (Olivier Girard*), ASL (Guillaume Duhamel*), DCE (Virginie Callot*). Post-processing pipelines are also developed or adapted to extract these parameters and contributing to address relevant clinical questions (Arnaud Le Troter*) relative to the following pathologies.
